MUMBAI: Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday hit back at Home Minister Amit Shah by saying that, unlike him, he has not gone to jail.
Pawar was referring to Shah’s remark earlier this month questioning the NCP chief ’s contribution to Maharashtra farmers.

“For right or wrong, I have never had to go to jail. So, those who have gone to jail should not ask me what has Sharad Pawar done,” Pawar said while speaking at a party workers’ meet in Solapur on Tuesday.

Pawar was referring to Shah’s remark on September 1 at Solapur in Maharashtra where he said, “Sharad Pawar should reveal at a press conference about the financial help (he gave) to farmers in Maharashtra.”

The NCP chief then began talking about he handled many of the state’s issue and also took on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis again without naming him.

“I was the chief minister when the earthquake happened in Latur in 1993. I was at Killari (the worst hit) at 7 am. Nowadays, politicians do an aerial tour of the flooded areas for half an hour and later on go missing. The head of the state should be stationed at the spot of the natural disaster. Otherwise, the state machinery will not move,” Pawar said.
