TN, Karnataka defer decision on opening industry

Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has deferred to Monday giving permission to factories including hardware makers to begin operations
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have deferred to Monday taking a decision to resume manufacturing in their respective states citing that separate guidelines would be given by the governments.

Both states house large auto makers such as Ashok Leyland, Hyundai and Toyota Kirloskar, besides Wistron and Foxconn, the contract manufacturers for smartphone maker Apple.

The Tamil Nadu government in a statement said that an expert panel which has been commissioned to study whether industrial operations could be resumed will submit its report on Monday to chief minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami. Based on its recommendations, the government will take a call. Till then, the lockdown would continue, it said.

Karnataka industries secretary Gaurav Gupta in a letter to industrial units wrote that a separate order with regard to operating of industries is under examination of the State government and the lockdown would continue.
