    Trade unions term disinvestment policies anti-farmer, anti-people

    In the memorandum, the unions have reiterated their opposition to disinvestment, saying that privatisation of public-sector enterprises like Air India, and opening up of sectors like railway, defence, port and dock, coal, banks, insurance, space science & atomic energy were steps in favour of corporates to usurp natural resources and business of the country.

    NEW DELHI: Central trade unions staged a nationwide protest on Friday against what they called anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people and anti-national policies of the government.
    The unions said they had submitted their memorandum to the labour minister opposing the disinvestment and privatisation drive of the government and highlighting the worsening condition of workers since the outbreak of Covid-19.

    The central trade unions that had joined the nationwide protest were Congress-backed INTUC, Left's CITU and AITUC, AIUTUC, HMS, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC. They had held a nationwide protest on May 22 opposing changes to labour laws introduced by some states.
