ISLAMABAD: A US diplomat was found dead at his home in the Pakistani capital on Monday after apparently shooting himself in the head, police said.
The US embassy in Islamabad named the 37-year-old official as Department of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement Attaché Keith Ryan and said in a statement that his death would be investigated.
"He was found dead at his home. A bullet hit his head," a Pakistani investigation official told AFP. "Apparently he committed suicide, but we are investigating from all possible angles."
Officials from the US embassy and medical teams arrived at the scene before police were alerted, the investigator said.

A senior security official also said that the US diplomat was found dead at his home in Islamabad after a suspected suicide.
"Our esteemed colleague, Mr Keith Ryan, passed away this morning in Islamabad," the US statement said, without mentioning the cause of death.
"There will be a full investigation; however, there does not appear to have been any foul play," it said.
Ryan leaves a wife and three young children. He had been serving in Islamabad since November 2006, the US embassy said.
Ryan joined the federal government in 1996 after graduating from Boston College Law School.
He was a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard and had previously served as a Border Patrol Agent with the US Border Patrol.
