New Delhi: When I was in JNU, there was no tukde-tukde gang there, external affairs minister S Jaishankar said on Monday. Jaishankar asserted that the Modi government had a problem-solving approach, which was evident from the way decades-old legacy issues such as Citizenship Act, Article 370 and Ayodhya were addressed. The US, Soviet Union and China had engineers among their leadership who tried to solve problems, Jaishankar said at an interactive session during a book release function on China in the national capital organised by ORF.

“A lot of what we are doing is not of our doing, be it the Article 370, the Citizenship Amendment Act or the Ayodhya Verdict,” Jaishankar said. When asked about violence in JNU on Sunday night, Jaishankar said: “I had said what I had to... When I was in JNU, there was no tukde-tukde gang there.” Praising China’s leadership, Jaishankar said: “The Chinese are extremely good in becoming the power they seem to be heading towards. You don’t get to be a bigleague power by evolution and accident. It takes leadership, it takes diligence.” He suggested: “India needs to learn from China how to address problems. We should look at China’s story systematically.” “There’ll be an India model 10 years from now,” Jaishankar said. “We are less lethargic today. We have an aspiration to be a leading power, we are not yet a leading power,” Jaishankar said.
