GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students Union (Aasu), which is opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), held a protest in Guwahati on Thursday, and said it will start meeting different political parties in Delhi to garner support against the bill.
Aasu general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi told ET: “We will go to Delhi on November 22 and meet different political parties to explain to them the dangers of CAB.” In January this year, Aasu had carried out a similar exercise and received support from JDU and other political parties.

NDA ally JDU, which also reiterated its opposition to the bill, said Union home minister Amit Shah must consult stakeholders before tabling the bill. JDU secretary general KC Tyagi told ET: “We stand by our earlier resolution that CAB will impact the culture and language of northeast. We welcome Aasu delegation to Delhi.”

“The home minister recently stated he will consult stakeholders before tabling the bill. Accordingly, he must come to northeast, spend a day and talk to all stakeholders before tabling the bill. The government may consider sending the bill to a select panel,” he said.
