Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday served notices on 49 activists of the ruling YSR Congress Party, including a Lok Sabha member, for comments allegedly attributing motives to judges who had passed orders against the government’s decisions.
Nandigam Suresh from Bapatla is the MP who was served the notice. He had recently found fault with the court’s orders and alleged that opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu was accessing the judgements much before they were pronounced. He also had alleged that Naidu was “managing the judiciary”.

Amanchi Krishna Mohan, a former legislator from Cheerala, was another leader who was served a notice. He had allegedly said in a public meeting that the party cadres would have organised protests before the high court if there were no lockdown regulations.

The court took up the matter following a complaint filed by advocate VV Lakshminarayana, who brought to the notice of the court various speeches and social media postings of YSRCP leaders and followers.

Senior advocate Jandhya Ravi Shakar viewed the alleged attack on the judiciary as defamation and contempt of court, pointing out that most of the social media posts were aimed at the high court chief justice, which he said was “sheer intimidation”.
