    Indian-Australian receives doctorate of technology by Swinburne University

    Indian-origin IIT-ian, Ravi Bhatia has been conferred with the first doctor of technology by Australia's Swinburne University of Technology.

    MELBOURNE: An Indian-origin IIT-ian has become the first Indian-Australian to receive the doctor of technology degree by the Swinburne University here. Ravi Bhatia, founder of telecom company Primus Australia, was recently given the award for his substantial contribution to the Swiburne University of Technology.

    Expressing his delight, Bhatia said, "Indian-Australian have been playing a key role in projecting a positive and strong image of India in Australia which has also helped in building the relations." "I would wish for more active and open involvement by the highly educated Indian professionals in Australia and I am going to start working to achieve this objective," he said.

    Bhatia's company Primus Australia is a highly successful and profitable venture which generates over 500 million dollars in annual revenue through organic growth and acquisitions in the enterprise and consumer segments. Bhatia is also known for playing a key role in the initial roll out of National Broadband Network in first release sites in Tasmania and mainland Australia.

    Bhatia was also a former member of Board of Directors of Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman and the Alfred Foundation, President of Australia-India Business Council Victoria and Convener of Committee of Student Related Activities, a non-profit organisation that assists international students in Melbourne.
