New Delhi: In a relief to the cash-strapped telecom PSU, Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) is set to roll out 4G Services by the end of this financial year, said PK Purwar, CMD, BSNL.
In a market where the other telcos were able to garner a huge amount of revenue from data-services, non-availability of 4G spectrum for BSNL pushed the company further down. Government is said to allot 4G spectrum to BSNL by the end of this year, said BSNL Chairman and Managing Director P K Purwar.

"We expect that BSNL should be able to launch 4G services by the end of this financial year. We expect that within the end of this calendar year itself, 4G spectrum will be allocated", said Purwar.

The company has been making losses since 2009, and in the year 2018-2019 the losses crossed over Rs 14,000 crore, making it an 'incipiently sick company'.

During early October, BSNL asserted that a revival plan was under active consideration. The plan entails giving suitable package comprising components like voluntary retirement scheme (VRS), 4G spectrum allocation and monetisation of available assets with BSNL. Talking about the progress of the plan, Purvar said that it will be out within a few weeks time.

About the ongoing row over BSNL not paying salary to its employees, the CMD assured that the pending amounts will be paid before Diwali.

"All around the telecom industry is going through a challenging phase, in which all the operators are finding it financially challenging with a very competitive tariff rates. We have a legacy issue, which we are trying to address with a revival package. We expect that within weeks it should be in place," said Purvar during an MoU signing ceremony with YuppTV on the 21st of October.

BSNL and YuppTv have entered into a triple play partnership for video and broadband technology services for mobile and fixed line.
