    Chingari, Zoho among some winners of govt App Challenge; Mitron gets a special mention

    Indian short video app Chingari has been selected under the Social category, Mitron an app founded by IIT engineers has found a special mention. In the Entertainment category, CaptionPlus has emerged as the winner while in E-learning Disprz has been selected, 3D Cricket Strategy Game Hitwicket Superstars has emerged on top in Games.

    The government has announced the winners along with some of the top contestants under its programme to incentivise homegrown applications under the Atmanirbhar mission of the Indian government.
    Under the App Innovation Challenge, while Indian short video app Chingari has been selected under the Social category, Mitron an app founded by IIT engineers has found a special mention. In the Entertainment category, CaptionPlus has emerged as the winner while in E-learning Disprz has been selected, 3D Cricket Strategy Game Hitwicket Superstars has emerged on top in Games while in Health, StepSetGo an app which rewards users on the number of steps taken has become the winner.

    Under the Challenge which was launched by the prime minister on July 4, close to 7000 entrepreneurs and start-ups across the country applied for the contest which is aimed at boosting domestic applications after India banned a slew of Chinese applications.

    Indian firm Zoho has bagged the first place in two categories with its apps Zoho Invoice, Books & Expense and Zoho Workplace emerging as winners in the Business and Office category respectively. Application Cliq has jointly won the award with Zoho Workplace. In the News category, Logically Check Fake News and Verify Facts has won along with MapmyIndia Move: Maps, Navigation & Tracking in the others category.

    In a statement earlier, the government had said that it has received a total of 6940 entries across the 8 categories under the AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge. These include 3939 from individuals and about 3001 from organizations and companies. Amongst those received from individuals, around 1757 applications are ready to use and the remaining 2182 are under development. Around 271 of the Apps have more than 100,000 downloads with 89 of the Apps having million plus downloads.
