Ford India slashes EcoSport's price by up to Rs 1.12 lakh to counter Vitara Brezza

MUMBAI: Just a few days into the launch of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza at an aggressive price of Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.68 lakh , its US rival Ford India has slashed prices of its popular compact SUV by Rs 56,000 to Rs 1.12 lakh to hold on to its own in growing compact SUV space.

Post the price adjustment the new price for EcoSport starts at Rs 6.68 lakh to Rs 9.75 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi.

The price of diesel variants has seen a massive slash of Rs 1.12 lakh bringing the top end variant pricing below Rs 10 lakh and now the petrol variant starts at Rs 6.68 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi

As against five variants of Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki's Brezza has 7 variants and despite the price correction, interestingly Ford EcoSport is still at a premium of Rs 30,000 - Rs 50,000 over Vitara Brezza.

Post the price correction, major part of the portfolio now falls between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, which the company claims has been growing at 40% since 2013.

The sales of EcoSport has been averaging around 3000 to 4000 units, with price alignment Ford India is hoping to hold on its own in the competitive environment, if not increase the share said the official.

Unlike Maruti Suzuki Brezza, which has just diesel option, the EcoSport has both petrol and diesel option, along with automatic transmission. Over 1.25 lakh EcoSport have been sold in India since its launch in June 2013.
