Goa, the emerald jewel of India, has long been a traveler’s haven. Located on the west coast of India in the Konkan region and by the sparkling waters of the Arabian sea, Goa is a major attraction for domestic and international tourists alike. Its tropical climate, pristine beaches, food, rich culture that is a unique blend of Dutch, Portuguese, French, and above all, Hindu cultural dynamism have made it into a surreal destination.

In addition to its breathtaking landscape of sandy beaches and forests, Goa also enjoys immense historical significance with its known history dating back to the third century BC. During the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Maratha Kingdom spanned from Gujarat to Goa and Maharashtra along the coastal line.

Today, Goa is the land of opportunity and industrial growth. With its abundant natural resources and connectivity via air, water, road and railways, it offers enormous investment opportunities and contributes significantly to India’s growing economy.

When Indian Navy launched Maha Navy Connect in 2020, the tri-dimensional expedition in collaboration with The Times Group, to promote the maritime heritage of India and spread awareness about coastal security and opportunities with the Indian Navy amongst the coastal communities, the state of Goa has been proud to extend its goodwill and cooperation as a gesture of appreciation for the Indian Navy and Times Group for its commitment to create awareness about the maritime history of India that will benefit all the coastal states.

Speaking about the momentous occasion, Rohan Khaunte, Minister of Tourism, IT & EC and Printing & Stationery, Goa said, “I am glad Goa has been home to such a great initiative (Maha Navy Connect) being launched. It is indeed an honour for the state. Not even Covid-19 could deter the persons in white from protecting our shores and paying an honest tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, visionary strategist and Father of India's Maritime Security.”

By virtue of its strategic location and the borders it shares with states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, Goa has been at the forefront of globalization in India for centuries, by actively promoting travel, trade, migration, amalgamation of cultures and dissemination of knowledge.

“Goa can rightly be called the Cradle of Globalization in the Indian context. However, it is much more than that. During the reign of the great Maratha warrior King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the coastal boundaries of Western India spanned right from Gujarat in the North to Karwar in the South including the coastal regions of Maharashtra and Goa. Today, the Maha Navy Connect exercise re-connects the coastlines of Maharashtra and Goa, paying tribute to the vision of the great King. This is indeed a renewal of Historic and political strategy which strengthens the coastal regions of India”, says Khaunte.
