    After UP, 'Tanhaji' declared tax-free in Haryana; movie also enters Rs 100 cr-club

    NEW DELHi: This has been a fasinating week for 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior'. The Ajay Devgn-starrer has been declared tax free in Haryana, according to an official statement released on Thursday.


    On Wednesday, the Maharashtra government is keen on making the the historical drama tax-free in the state. Congress leader and state minister Yashomati Thakur tweeted that the issue was disccused in the cabinet meeting, and the chief minister's office would soon make an accouncement in this regard on Thursday.

    In a Times of India report, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat had clarified that the entertainment tax has been subsumed in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) which was earlier under the Revenue Ministry that was responsible for making any movie tax-free. The state minister also mentioned that the government will refund SGST.


    On Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh government has also decided to declare the movie tax-free. In a series of tweets, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared an update on Twitter. After Devgn's request to make the film tax-free, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader stressed that people can draw inspiration from Tanaji Malusare's sacrifice and courage.


    On Wednesday, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also appreciated the magnum opus and the cast's performance. He specially lauded Devgn, who is the co-producer of the film.


    After its release on Friday, the movie has already made its entry in the Rs 100 crore-club on Day 6. It also happens to be Devgn's 100th film.


    The Om Raut-directorial, set in the 17th century, is based on the life of Tanhaji Malusare, the military leader of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's army.

    Tanhaji played an instrumental role in taking back the strategic hill fortress of Kondhana from the Mughal empire.

    The film also features Saif Ali Khan and Kajol.
