Blackpink's Jisoo goes solo with debut album ‘Me’, sells over 800K copies on day 1

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo finally made her solo debut with the album ‘Me’.

The music video for the album’s title track, ‘Flower’ was also dropped on YouTube on March 31, at 9:30 a.m. The singer-actress also shared a side-track, ‘All Eyes On Me’ at the same time. Within minutes of release, the songs went on to break records and climbed the music charts rapidly.
With 17 million views, the ‘Flower’ MV is the fourth most watched MV on YouTube in the first 24 hours, surpassing BTS Jimin’s ‘Set Me Free: Part 2’ MV. It is also the fastest music video to surpass 1 million views ( three minutes), leaving Jimin’s ‘Like Crazy’ behind. (13 minutes). It is also the fastest music video to cross seven million views on YouTube in 2023 (one hour, 39 minutes).
The song is also performing phenomenally in the Korean charts. It entered the top ten in Melon (South Korea’s leading music streaming app) and peaked at number eight. The track has been winning hearts across the globe as well. It ranked three on the US iTunes chart.
The album also broke records when it came to physical sales. ‘Me’ sold 868,947 copies on Hanteo. This makes it the female solo act with the highest first-day sales in South Korea.
Although Jisoo did not have any songwriting credits for the song, she nevertheless, displayed her range as a vocalist and used her voice to convey rage and heartbreak.

Earlier, in an interview, the singer said that she intended to prove herself as a solo artist. “I am focusing on music, which falls within my niche and expertise. During the process, I found a new ‘me.’ This album reflects my journey (as a person and artist) and so has a personal touch to the music, aesthetics, styling, concept, and MV production,” she revealed in a press release on March 30.

Blackpink is currently the most popular girl group in the world . The quartet consists of Jennie (rap and vocals), Lisa (rap), Jisoo (vocals), and Rose (vocals).
