    Garima Arora of Bangkok's Gaa restaurant becomes first Indian woman to receive Michelin star

    Hailing from Mumbai, the 30-year-old Le Cordon Bleu alumna launched Gaa in 2017.

    Yet another culinary triumph for India. Restaurant Gaa in Bangkok, led by executive chef Garima Arora, was awarded its first Michelin star today by Michelin Guide Thailand.

    At a press conference this morning held at Bangkok’s Park Hyatt hotel, the official announcement was made honoring restaurants across Bangkok, Phuket and Phang-Nga, in Thailand.

    30-year-old Arora, who has worked with industry veterans like Gordon Ramsay, Rene Redzepi and Gaggan Anand, opened her restaurant in Bangkok in April 2017.

    Arora’s launched her restaurant after exploring the jungle and tribal markets of Thailand.

    Speaking on the occasion, Arora said, “I am incredibly humbled and so proud that Restaurant Gaa has been recognized by the esteemed Michelin Guide. It’s such a coveted accolade a restaurant can be granted, and I am delighted that the dedicated efforts of my wonderful team have been recognized by this highly-regarded organization.”
