A virtual wedding may not have been what most prospective couples had in mind when they decided to tie the knot in 2020 but they’re making the most of it with inventive wedding playlists that allow family and friends to join in the celebrations.

Music app Spotify found that in the last 5 months, more than 400,000 wedding-themed playlists were created by users with a number of them using ‘Zoom’ ‘Virtual’ and 'Micro-Wedding' in the title.

Of these, the app found that Punjabi beats like “Sauda Khara Khara” by Dhvani Bhanushali, Diljit Dosanjh, Dj Chetas, Lijo George, Sukhbir was the most popular genre for wedding celebrations in India. Globally, English singer Ed Sheeran was the most-streamed artist with his hits ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and ‘Perfect’ featuring quite frequently.

Some couples took advantage of the app’s collaborative feature to invite friends and family to add, remove and reorder tracks, ensuring everyone gets to hear their favourite romantic tracks and dance floor hits on that special day.
