When artist Owais Husain’s installation at a Mumbai art festival ruffled security
Synopsis
Husain had to convince the security to put up his installation, despite getting all the permissions.
The old saying —‘Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder’ was put to test during a two-day public art festival at Mumbai’s CST railway station, where artist Owais Husain’s installation was to be displayed. Husain had to convince the security to put up his installation, despite getting all the permissions. It was made of metal trunks on which a movie was to be screened. “The security saw it and they couldn’t understand what it was. So they refused to let me put it up. They relented only after I fought for it. This is public art, made with no intention to disrupt anything, but it still managed to ruffle a few feathers,” said Husain with a laugh.
