    WWDC 2023: From Journal, AirDrop upgrade to StandBY, iOS 17 makes iPhone more intuitive

    The iOS 17 also introduces new experiences with Journal, an app that makes it easy for people to practice gratitude, and StandBy, a new way to view glanceable information when iPhone is set down and charging.
    Apple on Monday unveiled an operating system update for iPhone, the new iOS 17 which upgrades the communications experience across iPhone, FaceTime, and Messages; makes sharing even easier with AirDrop.

    At the WWDC 2023, ahead of the big announcement regarding Apple's first mixed-reality headset, the Cupertino-based tech giant unveiled iOs 17 which provides more intelligent input that improves the speed and accuracy of typing.

    The iOS 17 also introduces new experiences with Journal, an app that makes it easy for people to practice gratitude, and StandBy, a new way to view information at a glance when iPhone is set down and charging.

    “With iOS 17, we’ve made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.

    After years of speculation, Apple CEO Tim Cook hailed the arrival of sleek goggles, dubbed “Vision Pro," at the the company’s annual developers conference held on a park-like campus in Cupertino, California, that Apple’s late co-founder Steve Jobs helped design. Although Apple executives provided an extensive preview of the headset’s capabilities during the final half hour of Monday’s event, consumers will have to wait before they can get their hands on the device and prepare to pay a hefty price to boot.

    Major Upgrades

    The iOS 17 brings major updates with personalised Contact Posters, providing users with a new way to express themselves.

    With these new features, users can now customise how they appear and bring a completely new look to incoming calls by choosing beautiful effects on photos or Memoji along with eye-catching typography and font colours.

    "Contact Posters will also be available for third-party calling apps," Apple's Federighi said.

    Meanwhile, Live Voicemail will now give users the ability to see real-time transcription as someone leaves a voice mail. With iOS 17 update, FaceTime now supports audio and video messages so in case you call someone and they are not available, you can leave a message that can be played later.

    Sharing Becomes Easier

    iOS 17 also brings upgrades to AirDrop, which will now share files with anyone more conveniently and easily.

    NameDrop will allow users to easily share contact information by simply bringing their iPhones together or by bringing an Apple Watch or iPhone together.

    "With the same gesture, users can also share content or start SharePlay to listen to music, watch a movie, or play a game while in close proximity between iPhone devices," Federighi said.
