    Synopsis

    The UAE has introduced various relaxations in Visa issuance to attract people to stay in the country. For expats, here are three categories that are eligible for a 5-year Green Visa

    The United Arab Emirates has continuously been reforming its entry and Visa issuance norms to attract qualified professionals, high net worth individuals, and entrepreneurs to invest and stay in the country. There are Golden Visas, a five-year tourist visa granting multiple entries into the UAE, an average tourist Visa, etc. Recently, the UAE announced the launch of a Green Visa with five-year validity.

    The Green Visa is a resident Visa that allows the Visa holder to sponsor himself for five years. The visa would be effective from September 5, 2022.
    Why the new Visa?
    85% of the total population of UAE consists of expatriates. As such, foreign workers seek new visas and entry rules to live in the UAE hassle-free and enjoy its standard of living. Introducing the Green Visa would make it easier for expats to live and work in the UAE.

    What does the Green Visa offer?
    The Green Visa would allow expatriates to self-sponsor themselves for five years. Moreover, they would also be allowed to sponsor their spouses, children, and first-degree relatives. The validity and tenure of the Family's Visa would be in sync with the Visa of the primary holder.

    Who can get the Green Visa?
    Foreigners in the following three categories would be eligible to get a Green Visa –

    1. Skilled professionals
    Skilled employees can get a Green Visa without any employer or sponsor. They need a minimum educational qualification of a Bachelor's degree and have a salary of at least Dh15,000. They should have an employment contract in their names and fall in the first three occupational levels as determined by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

    2. Self-employed individuals and freelancers
    Freelancing individuals and self-employed are allowed the Visa if they get a self-employment/freelance permit issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. A minimum educational qualification of a specialized diploma or a Bachelor's degree is needed. The annual income for the last two years needs to be Dh360,000 or above. Alternatively, if the applicant can submit proof of financial solvency during the UAE domicile, they would become eligible for the Visa.

    3. Partners or investors
    The Visa is available for partners and investors to promote investments in business-related activities. The validity is five years. The applicant would have to submit investment proof and approval. Moreover, approval from the authorized local authorities is needed, and the aggregate capital would be considered in the case of multiple licenses.
