L&T has rolled out smart technology solutions in these cities that help local administration in monitoring crowds, tracking patients, communicating with the public - and even maintaining law and order.

“L&T Smart World & Communication has been working with various city administrations and state governments to effectively manage complex civic functions in metropolitan cities,” said SN Subrahmanyan, chief executive officer and managing director. “With its ability to seamlessly integrate various smart technologies to manage surveillance, crowd management, message delivery and communication to residing populace, L&T is supporting the transformation of city civic administrations.”.

On April 2, the World Health Organisation (WHO) conducted a virtual roundtable with global technology experts to explore ideas and solutions that can use technology - not just to combat the pandemic but also to get the global economy back on track.

In India, L&T has partnered with municipal and police agencies to set up technology and manage command and control centers or city operations centers in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Prayagraj, Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam, and Hyderabad.

Earlier, L&T’s smart world and communications offerings were used during cyclone Fani in Odisha and in managing the large-scale Maha Kumbh event in Prayagraj.

In Hyderabad, the administration issued an order asking people not to drive beyond 3-km from their residences even for buying essential goods. L&T is offering a machine-learning based automated number plate recognition system which is helping police enforce the curbs.

In cities like Hyderabad and Mumbai, L&T is using artificial intelligence and crowd formation analytics that trigger real-time alerts at the police command center to help them disperse the crowd through field officers.

The company is also working on new solutions, along with local authorities, such as a chatbot-based emergency pass system in Telangana, drones-based surveillance for crowd formation at Mumbai, and fever detection using thermal cameras at Mumbai.
