“India has a deep pool of creative professionals. “It does not hurt that the penetration of sophisticated phones into the hands of India. Those numbers don’t exist anywhere. There are so many people who can listen to this, have a private listening experience because of phone sets in their pockets,” said Don Katz, CEO and Founder of Audible.

Audible is deepening its presence into an already crowded content market with plethora of podcast options and video streaming apps, including Amazon Prime.

“When we get great ideas in India we can take them to other countries we go to,” Katz said. “That is our future... to be originally creative. We have already proved that repositioning a book as a script is a powerful to allow people to use their time.”

The company said it is just getting started in India with 60 audio series. The series are across genres like romance, thriller, comedy and self-development.

“Audio can go with you wherever you go, anytime your hands and eyes are busy with mind is free. People don’t know what kind of content I can experience on audio. The best way to create that awareness and adoption is to put the best content out there in front of as many people as possible. The best way to do that is for free,” said Shailesh Sawlani, Country General Manager, India.
